The airline would commence twice-day flights between Penang and Subang from October 29, with bookings available online from today.

Firefly is a subsidiary of MAS which operates turbo propeler plane. It previous operates from Penang only to Koh Samui and Eastern states i.e. Kelantan and Terengganu.

    Just a sharing of my recent experience of taking Firefly Airline with all my friends and visitors who are considering Firefly Airline…

    No doubt Firefly airline (a subsidiary of Malaysia Airline) promise to provide cheap and budget air tickets to passengers, I would advise those who would like to give Firefly a try to be aware of the potential delay of Firefly flight at the 11th hour whereby you can practically do nothing at that time but a terrible experience. Eventually, the incidental cost incurred is even more costly than the saving you might save from the so called cheap ticket.

    Based on my experience and I am not sure whether I am the unlucky one or not, out of 3 flights, 2 were delayed and resulting we missed the last boat to Pulau Redang and incurred additional necessary cost to stay a night at Kuala Trengganu and wasted a day of supposed to be “happy hours” at Pulau Redang.

    Also, on the same day (mid of March 2008), not only the flight from Penang to Kuala Trengganu was delayed, we also met a bunch of unhappy passengers including foreigners with sour and long faces who faced the same bad experience whereby their flight from Penang to Pulau Langkawi was delayed too...Some of the passengers told me that they were paying RM300+ for a return ticket from Penang to Langkawi which is not really cheap for a low cost airline like Firefly Airline.

    Trust me this is definitely not a good experience especially when you are expecting to have a great and relaxing vacation and enjoy your precious moment with your love one on the beach... and ended up talking to a bunch of unfriendly Firefly personnel (that I believe that they need to attend further training to improve their customer service skills).

    It is not worth your vacation time talking to a bunch of inexperienced and irresponsible customer service personnel who can only offer 2 options to you when you are going to miss your last boat: (1) cancel your flight and get a refund or (2) reschedule your flight…They just ignore all the hassle, opportunity cost and inconvenience caused by the delay of the flights conveniently…

    In view of this unpleasant incident to lose both monetary on additional hotel accommodation and loss of accommodation and vacation time at Pulau Redang, we have filed a complaint and request for compensation as advised by Firefly customer service personnel via email to feedback@fireflyz.com.my. To our surprise and disappointment, it takes 3-4 weeks for Firefly to respond and reject our claim with a simple note “Your request of compensation has been declined” and no feedback to our complaint.

    Personally, I view this kind of service as irresponsible and would like to share our experience and suggest those who really stretch on their time for not trying your luck and taking the risk. It is not worth to waste both your valuable time and money this way....

We would love to receive more feedback from everyone who has came to Malaysia, bad or good.. we want to be transparent.. we notice that our customer service level in Malaysia is pretty bad.. but, there is no venue that is really transparent available. This big company always filter the bad one, only publish the good one. By publish through blogs and internet, we hope these big companies will pay more attention to their customers rather than to their bosses..

    I flew Firefly before, and their service was OK, delay for 30 mins.. biasa la tu. Low Cost Airlines.. you pay less, you have to expect less la..

    i can tell you Fin Freedom Achiever is not from RED airline. Because i find the almost the same problem with me. On Feb, i've booked ticket from fireflyz, departed date is 13,June. Today, i called up and checked another time the ticket, what i got is my schedule been change without any notification. one of my flight from 4pm, changed to 10pm, where by i 've plan to attend a dinner at 8pm after touch down at about 5pm. see???

    Frankly said, even before i step on their plane, i already decided not to try my luckiness on this airline anymore.

    Updated for my experience, now, another time my flight has been change. Original flight is 8am, they switch it to 7am. today is 9th June, my flight is 13th, i have to called them everyday from now on to confirm whether they will change my schedule anymore. GOD bless me for my coming vacation with Fireflyz.

    Fireflyz really sucks. I had bad experience with them too. They tell you to check-in 30 minutes before flight right? Dont believe them, If can go earlier. 2 hours advance. if not they will make you as scapegoat and sell your seat to last minutes customer who can pay higher price.

    Those who are planning to have nice holiday trip try to avoid Fireflyz if you dont want your trip be ruin.

    Myself and family waited the flight for 2 hours over and only to know that the flight was canceled.We were told to check out from the immigration and firefly have arrange hotel for us, however we and other passengers have other transit flights to catch will have to buy our own tickets again to fly back to Kuala Lumpur and we were told by the firefly personnel that we can claim for the refund when we arrive in Subang airport.

    At 9p.m. we finally arrived and proceed to the office but were told the office is close. We approached the counter and the person in charge explained that the system is down and not able to process the refund and that the flight was not cancelled but rescheduled to 6 pm. However, I have only received the sms from firefly at 5 p.m. in the evening and around 3 pm. we were already told by Koh Samui airport authority to check in to the hotel and the flight was cancelled.

    After going through all the hassles and now have been nearly 2 months I have called in 3 times to customer service to request for the status and also have wrote to check, there is nobody in firely take the responsibility to answer us when is our refund coming except it is in the process and it will be shown in next stmt. In addition, after the reply from customer service via email, I have requested for more info and nobody responded!


    Firefly is shitty! Getting a budget flight does not mean depriving our rights as consumers and also stop giving excuses and take accountability.

    I am so disappointed with firelyzzzz.. i frequently book this damn airline as it nearest location for us in damansara. I usually book it for my staffs n boss. So for the past 3 months there have been around 12 flights or so.. and guess how many delays we have to deal with.. around 6 / 7 delays... shit fireflyzzz!!! If only other airlines are available from subang, no way in hell would I ever book this damn airline for my business people. I really hate to complain but after dealing 6 / 7 delays, they really got the yelling and cursing from me.

    But what really sucks is that we still have to use this idiotic airline for our future trips otherwise we have to go all the way to KLIA or LCCT.
